The following is Prime Minister Han’s full text commemorating the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.

Respected citizens, independence fighters and bereaved families, and distinguished guests from home and abroad,

Today is a very meaningful day as it marks the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.

First, I would like to express my utmost respect for the dedication of our patriotic ancestors who sacrificed everything to usher in the dawn of our country’s independence even in the darkness of the Japanese colonial era.

We express our respect and gratitude to the independence fighters and descendants who have upheld the noble will of our ancestors.

I would like to thank everyone who is here, including Chairman Lee Jong-chan and Director Kim Hee-gon of the Liberation Association, who have promoted the spirit of independence.

On April 11, 1919, the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was born with the national desire for independence burning hot through the March 1st Movement.

In particular, by adopting a democratic republican system for the first time in our history, we declared that the Republic of Korea is a democratic country.

From that day on, the Provisional Government led the independence movement for 27 years, despite experiencing great hardships, and did not stop fighting to regain the lost country.

It became the focal point of our people’s independence movement and led a systematic and fierce struggle for liberation in various fields, including administration, military, education, and diplomacy.

By closely linking anti-Japanese organizations scattered at home and abroad, the Korean Liberation Army was established, declared full-scale war against Japan in 1941, and carried out joint operations with the Allied Powers on the China, India, and Burma fronts.

Additionally, through persistent diplomatic efforts, we were able to guarantee our independence from the international community.

In addition, we established Inseong School and Samil Middle School to preserve our culture and strive to restore national sovereignty through education.

Based on the noble dedication of our ancestors, we were able to become the proud owners of the Republic of Korea, a free and prosperous country.

We will forever remember the feats of our ancestors.

The government will honor those who have devoted themselves to the country and ensure that the values of the independence movement will live on forever.

Dear citizens,

Our government is doing its best in all areas of government to achieve the Republic of Korea that our ancestors dreamed of.

First, we will more firmly protect freedom and peace. We will respond resolutely to North Korea’s continued provocations and threats with overwhelming defense power, but will keep the path for dialogue and cooperation open.

Through solid alliances and solidarity with the international community, we will realize peace and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

We will strengthen our economic security by securing a stable global supply chain and multilateral cooperation.

In addition, we will revitalize exports, investment, and domestic demand, and strive to stabilize prices, create jobs, and restore the perceived economy.

We will actively support high-tech strategic industries, including semiconductors, and lead our economy’s innovative growth and global leap forward through technological innovation and fostering new industries.

We will accelerate structural reforms for sustainable growth, including overcoming the population crisis, balanced regional development, and medical reform.

At the same time, we will strive for national harmony and coexistence.

More than 100 years ago, our ancestors overcame numerous hardships by working together in the hope that independence would definitely come, even in harsh circumstances.

We must learn the power to overcome crisis and the spirit of unity from the history of the Provisional Government and the dedication of our ancestors.

Let us overcome various challenges with the united power of our people, beyond conflicts over region, ideology, generation, and polarization.

Let us all work together to pass on a glorious Republic of Korea to our descendants.

thank you
