Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has stressed the importance of his side taking a cue from their poor run of form last year.

Ghana faced lots of difficulties in 2024 during Addo’s first year in charge following his re-appointment as the gaffer of the side.

The team failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years while picking up just two wins from 10 games across all competitions. Ghana also failed to win any of their AFCON qualifiers, with three of the games ending in a draw.

With the opportunity for a fresh start, the 49-year-old is hoping his side has learnt from their lows from the past.

“This is football. Sometimes you have ups, sometimes you have downs, but the most important thing is to learn out of the downs,” he told TV3.

“And even if you have ups, to be critical enough to look at the improving points.”

The Black Stars host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before facing Madagascar three days later in Morocco.

Ghana are joint top of the 2026 World Cup qualifying table with nine points alongside Comoros.
