Ghanaian musical artiste Mahnny has expressed his concern about the growing issue of drug use among the youth in Ghana.

He spoke to the issue in a recent interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty,

“I am starting to see some demonstration about drug use and stuff and I feel it is messing up the youth. Because when you get to Atlanta, the downtown there you’d know that there is drugs in this country. It’s very very crazy like nice guys, nice girls, everybody is on drugs and I think it is not a good thing,” he said.

Mahnny believes that someone is behind the influx of drugs into the country, targeting the youth.

“Maybe there’s somebody somewhere bringing all these goods down for people to be able to have it and sell it for our youth and it’s spoiling them,” he explained.

He also highlighted the evolution of drugs, citing the example of ecstasy, which has changed from blue to red.

“It changed from blue to red, it used to be white, then it came blue and then now red. It’s the same as ecstasy, so they try to find people who give it to people so if people are interested then they try to bring it more into the country so a lot of people take it,” he asserted.

Mahnny shared his personal experience of being approached by drug peddlers at popular spots like Labadi beach.

“And these things happen in the night clubs, in the open places that we go and stuff, and even at the Labadi beach, some people may approach you and say, yo I have this, I have GH gold,” he revealed.

He emphasised the need for vigilance, especially at public places like beaches, to prevent the sale and use of drugs.

“It is not good for you to approach people who are maybe coming from abroad and they come to have fun and it feels like our beaches are selling drugs and is not good,” he said.

Mahnny’s concerns highlight the need for awareness and action to address the issue of drug use among Ghanaian youth.
