Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, is expecting the Black Stars’ technical team to “instill a winning mentality” in the players after a run of disappointing results.

The senior national team are winless in any of their last six matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

This led to their failure to qualify for the continental event for the first time in 20 years.

The Ghana FA reacted to the slump in form by appointing Winfried Anton Schafer as Technical Advisor, Sports Psychologist Kris Perquy, and Desmond Ofei as assistant coach to support head coach Otto Addo.

“Beyond the tactics and selection, the technical team is tasked with instilling a winning mentality in our players,” Adams said on the floor of Parliament.

“We must restore pride in the Black Stars jersey and ensure that our national team, once again, becomes a force to be reckoned with in Africa and global football.”

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will host Chad on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium before jetting off to Morocco to face Madagascar on March 24 for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“The Black Stars technical team has assured my Ministry that all necessary preparations have been made and that the players are in high spirit, ready to give their all for the nation,” Adams added.

Ghana share the top spot in Group I with Comoros on nine points from four matches in the qualifying series for the 2026 mundial.
