0 The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, has instructed the Ghana Police Service to begin immediate legal proceedings against individuals implicated in violent activities during the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Election.
This directive follows increasing concerns over election-related violence, which tarnished the electoral process and sparked public unrest in several regions of the country.
Speaking during a visit to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the Interior Minister stressed the importance of holding those responsible to account, emphasising that such actions undermine the integrity of the democratic process and public confidence in electoral systems.
“We cannot allow violence to become a recurring issue during elections. Bring forward videos of those suspected of involvement in election-related offences, and let us begin prosecution,” he stated.
The order targets individuals identified through ongoing investigations, with the police being instructed to expedite the legal process.
Authorities have reportedly gathered substantial evidence, including video footage, implicating several individuals in acts of violence, such as ballot box tampering and clashes between rival political factions.
