Black Stars midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has revealed he dreamt of scoring his first goal for Ghana against arch-rivals Nigeria.

The Cercle Brugge midfielder was part of Otto Addo’s 23-man squad for the Unity Cup in London, where Ghana faced Nigeria and Trinidad & Tobago.

In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports’ Lawrence Baidoo, Agyekum opened up about the dream that inspired him throughout the tournament.

“Before the call-up, I dreamt of scoring my first goal against Nigeria,” he said. “So, sitting on the bench, I was hoping to come on and make it happen. When I didn’t get the chance, I was a bit worried.”

However, Agyekum didn’t let that moment define him. He stayed motivated ahead of the next fixture.

“I told myself the next game is another opportunity. I really wanted to score, so when I got my goal against Trinidad and Tobago, I wasn’t surprised. If something is meant to happen, it will happen,” he added.

Agyekum scored his debut goal in Ghana’s 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, helping the Black Stars secure third place in the Unity Cup.

He made his senior debut for Ghana in March during the World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The 2024/2025 season was impressive for the 21-year-old midfielder. He featured in 46 matches for Belgian side Cercle Brugge, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
