0 Despite a challenging season in the recently concluded Ghana Premier League, which saw Hearts of Oak narrowly escape relegation, coach Aboubakar Ouattara has voiced his opposition to the potential mass offloading of players as a solution for improvement.
The Phobians secured a 14th-place finish in the 2023/24 season after a crucial comeback victory over Bechem United on the final day.
However, Ouattara believes that letting go of many players is not the right approach to strengthen the team for the upcoming season.
“You are sacking 100 and bringing 200, what are the results?” Ouattara quizzed in an interview with SportsObama TV.
“Let us go slowly. When you go slowly, you have a 100% chance to achieve something. Sacking 11, 22, 100 players, we bring in 100 and we start again, you are wasting money.”
Hearts of Oak are reportedly interested in signing former Kotoko midfielder Enoch Morrison and ex-Bechem United forward Augustine Okrah. Meanwhile, their rivals Asante Kotoko have adopted the mass offloading strategy, releasing 21 players following their own disappointing season.
The two teams are set to face off in the highly anticipated Democracy Cup on July 17, 2024. As the new season approaches, the football community will be watching closely to see how Ouattara’s more measured approach to team restructuring plays out for Hearts of Oak.
